“The Book of 7” – a suite of 7 most recent works by Stephen Ferris – explores the nostalgia of the artist’s childhood, which he experienced in the late 1980s/early 1990s in a fairly remote area in Northern British Columbia.
As Ferris says: “…. these pieces form a mental landscape of flickering late night television, the woods, children’s encyclopedias, human anatomy, animal masks, ominous religious ceremonies, local legends, and fantasies (…) I have gathered them in a place where the viewers can participate, engage, embark on the journey, and form their own story or interpretation (…)
(…) This is a series of paintings I have been working on over the last year. Each painting is composed of countless interlocked illustrations that act like pieces of a psychic puzzle. The pieces were created using meditative, explorative and intuitive techniques with no final holistic picture in mind …”.
