This two-day workshop is an overview of oil painting for absolute beginners who wants to start practicing with oil paints and don ‘t know where to start. David Janzenwill go over basic materials, techniques, and treatments to build an understanding of still life monochromatic oil painting. Through live demonstrations and ongoing assistance this workshop will introduce the proper care of brushes, paint handling, the applications of lights and darks, discuss negative/positive space, and tonal considerations. Though all supplies will be provided in the class, participants may bring their own brushes if they so desire.
As a painter David Janzen explores conventional still-life motifs while developing ways of making pictures that incorporate assemblage or constructed elements. His artworks address settlement, industry, and the fragility of civilization’s dependence on technology, tenuously connected infrastructure(s) and the effects of human habitation on natural history.
