OPENING RECEPTION Friday, April 22, 2022 @ 7 PM
Dear Friend of Harcourt House Artist Run Centre:
Join us in celebrating the blossoming of Spring and the end of a lengthy Winter season with the opening of two evocative exhibition projects that invite the viewers to examine complex environmental and humanist issues and to deepen our connection to the land, its fragile ecosystem, and its inhabitants.
The Main Gallery features “Synoptic Translations – Digital Perspectives of the Anthropocene” – an exhibition of digital artworks that engage with impacts of climate change and industrialization. Developed and created in 2022 by Colton Hash, a Victoria-based multi-media artist and art educator, the project consists of three conceptually and thematically related components: Carbon Pulse: Edmonton Heartland, Eye on the Anthropocene, and Evolutionary Forest. Using data visualization, simulation, and interactivity, Colton Hash creates experimental installations to confront overwhelming issues inherent to the Anthropocene. The Flanagan Foundation is a Presenting Partner of this exhibition.
Colton Hash’s Harcourt House exhibition has been featured in the April/May 2022 issue of the Preview Art Magazine: https://preview-art.com/highlight/colton-hash-synoptic-translations/ and has an interview with Fish Griwkowsky in the Edmonton Journal: New Edmonton digital art show Synoptic Translations at Harcourt | Edmonton Journal
The Art Incubator Gallery showcases "Inside Out" – a suite of exceptionally executed surrealist works in various printmaking techniques by Madeline Mackay, a Scottish visual artist and art educator currently living and working in Glasgow, Scotland. Mackay graduated with Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. In this series of work, Mackay addresses and examines the relationship between psychological experiences and the human body. Sum-Canada Enterprises Ltd. is a Presenting Partner of this exhibition.
The official, in-person opening of both exhibitions will be taking place on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 7 pm. The Artists’ Talk by Colton Hash will follow the official opening. Both exhibitions will be on display until Saturday, June 4, 2022. Admission is free.
Hope to see you here.
Yours Truly,
The Harcourt House Team
