“The Book of 7 explores the nostalgia of my childhood, which I experienced in the late 80s/early 90s in a fairly remote area in Northern B.C.

As a child, one encounters many strange images, symbols, references, and languages without the proper context to interpret them. Bizarre thoughts and personal fables emerge. These pieces form a mental landscape of flickering late night television, the woods, children’s encyclopedias, human anatomy, unknown rituals from places that seem like other worlds, animal masks, ominus religious ceremonies, fish-gods, endless voyages, local legends, fantasies, and children venturing into the fringes and vanishing forever. I have gathered them in a place where the viewer can participate, engage and get lost, forming their own story or interpretation.

This is a series of paintings I have been working on over the last year. Each painting is composed of countless interlocked illustrations that act like pieces of a psychic puzzle. The pieces were created using meditative, explorative and intuitive improvisation techniques with no final wholistic picture in mind.” – Stephen Ferris
