Button-Up Shirt Upcycling Workshop
w/Nicole a-GoGo
Members: $40
Non-Members: $50
Saturday, August 11, 12 pm – 5 pm
*Sewing Machine Required
In this workshop we’ll be taking an “old” button-up shirt and turning it into a cute summer halter or tank top. We’re going to re-invent the shirt by slicing up the sleeves, reshaping the fit, adding some bias tape, new buttons, and possibly some appliques or patch work, if you fancy! It will look like a completely different shirt when finished. The idea is to get creative. You can change a lot with clever use of sewing trims and notions. It’s a great way to repurpose a garment that will otherwise go unused and unloved! We’re also going to learn more about the fast fashion industry, the importance of buying less, the value in re-use, and the fashion revolution!
Nicole A Go Go is a Blanche MacDonald Fashion Design graduate. She’s trained in clothing design, pattern making, and sewing and can often be found making colourful garments in fun silhouettes with vintage fabrics. Nicole has several years of experience working for local prominent designers and costume makers, and now operates a customer order only label. She’s very passionate about sustainability and fair practices within the garment industry. She loves sharing her knowledge of the industry with others and helping people discover a more meaningful relationship with their clothes. This means educating people on the true cost of fast fashion, sharing her technical skills, and pushing people to find their signature style.
