For millennia, the human form has fascinated visual artists, art historians, cultural anthropologists, art critics, and writers, and inspired countless historical and contemporary works of art. Through every era, representations of the body have reflected changes in cultural attitudes toward sexuality, gender roles, and social structures.
Kate Bang, E. Ross Bradley, and Darren Kooyman – the curators of this exhibition project, invited the participants in Harcourt House’s annual drawing and sculpture classes with live model to explore bare human form, whether taken literally or abstractly, in their submissions to “Ultimately Undressed”.
The exhibition showcases the works by the following Edmonton-based artists: Harry Abbink, Asal Andarzipour, Bonnie Bigley, E. Ross Bradley, Carrol Charest, Catharine Compston, Susan Diebel, Crystal Fersovich, Laura Fizelle, Bill Hately, Bryan Jackson, Trudy Mason, Mary Minnoch, Raymond Thériault, and Keith Turnbull.
The exhibition “Ultimately Undressed”” doubles as a fundraiser for Harcourt House Artist Run Centre. 30% of each artwork sold will support Harcourt’s art exhibitions and art education programs. The exhibition will be presented until July 16, 2022.
The exhibition “Ultimately Undressed” offers a fantastic opportunity for seasoned and novice art collectors. These exemplary works – in a variety of styles and media – are a “must have” additions to your growing art collection. For novice art collectors, this is an opportunity to start building your own collection of impressive works by Alberta-based artists.
The official opening of the exhibition will be held in Art Education Room #1 Gallery (Harcourt House’s Annex Building) on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 7 pm to 10 pm. Many exhibiting artists will be in attendance.
The exhibition “Ultimately Undressed” is presented in conjunction with the 2022 WORKS Festival of Visual Arts + Design.
