For this workshop, Noreen Crone-Findlay has designed and builds tiny looms that allow you to weave magical dragonflies quickly and easily. You don’t need to know how to weave as Noreen takes you through the process of weaving the dragonfly step by step. The woven dragonflies can be used as appliques on handmade or purchased garments and accessories. They can also be used as pins because Noreen will show you how to add wire to add strength and stability to the wings. They can hang in a window or on a mobile, a houseplant or a Christmas tree, made into a wreath or a garland, or used as an element in mixed media work. The dragonflies can be woven with medium or bulky weight yarns, upcycled yarn ( Noreen demonstrates how to make t-shirt yarn, or cut up outgrown or worn out clothing to make fabric strip yarn, and how to upcycle cloth teabags and coffee filters and brown paper to weave with them). If a loved one has passed, cut up some of their clothing into strips and weave dragonflies in loving memory for family and friends. The woven dragonflies are perfect as bookmarks and are delightful gifts that are simple to make and a treasure that will be cherished. Of course, purchased yarn works perfectly well, too. The dragonflies take very little yarn and are a great way to showcase hand spun or other precious yarns. The creative possibilities for the Woven Dragonflies are unlimited. A loom kit will be provided in the cost of the workshop that the participants can take home.
