“Pen or ink scars the surface. The automated drawing process guides vague stories and experiences churning through my mind. My ideas are often influenced by the long-term emotional and physical pain and how it alters the body and mind. My fears are translated by the universal language of the human form into symbolic characters. I draw figures that float in the ambiguous space, they influence each other and form the combined narrative. The process eliminates the opportunity for correction and I am forced to reconcile every new mark. Wherever these creatures reside, is a mystery to me, but it feels simultaneously close yet far away.
I wish to explore the diversity of perspective, the commodification of information, and the authorities within our narratives. Questioning them allows me to free the mind from cyclical problems and issues. I often pull from the content within my sketchbooks in which I collect these observations, notes, and surreal drawings. They are visual essays of a particular theme or emotion that release continuous deliberation and empower my senses.”
