Saturday, February 17, 2025, 2 – 4 pm in The Maggie and John Mitchell Art Education Studio, Harcourt House Annex Building (10211 – 112 Street, Edmonton).
New Music Edmonton and Harcourt House had such a great time with our Drawing and Sound gatherings, that we want to have at least one more! So, come along on what is almost certain to be a wonderful, wintery Saturday afternoon and make some visual art! We’ll have all the paper, pastels, pencils, crayons and other stuff you could ask for, and some incredible, live sound to inspire you. Once again, your hosts will be amazing artist Asal Andarzipour and brilliant sound artist Michael Reinhart. You can sit and draw, colour to your heart’s content, just like when you were a kid! Thank you to Harcourt House Artist Run Centre for making this event possible!
All art materials will be supplied by Harcourt House and New Music Edmonton or feel free to bring your own!
This event is 18+. Attendance is limited to 15, and pre-registration is advised. There is a $10 fee to cover materials.

Artist’s Bios
Asal Andarzipour: “I identify as an immigrant artist walking in my nomad ancestors’ shoes. My long journey across the ocean from Tehran to New York and then Alberta continues to inform and form my creative profile. Since 2015, I have actively served in arts and culture non-profits, and have evolved into a visual artist and designer, curator and an art educator.
I hold an MFA from Syracuse University and an MA in History of Art, Design and Visual Culture from the University of Alberta. I also play Tombak, a Persian wooden gublet drum. My artistic career and activism as an Iranian woman in the diaspora are integrated into my daily life. Over the years, drawing has remained an inseparable part of my practice in between artistic disciplines.”
Michael Reinhart, a graduate of The Ontario College of Art in1976, has experience in both visual arts & music. With long-time collaborator Lin Snelling, he has designed stages, lighting, music & video installations for the multidisciplinary performances ‘Woman as Landscape’ & ‘extinction’ produced by Carbone 14 in Montréal, & more recently ‘Performing Book’, ‘versing’, ‘eva’ & ‘A Sounding Line’ in Edmonton.
They were commissioned in late 2020, by New Music Edmonton, to create a video, ‘far off & personal’. Since 1982, he has collaborated with various musicians, dancers, poets, choreographers & directors. He created an original music score for Before Tomorrow, winner of Best First Feature at TIFF in 2008.
Michael toured extensively as a guitarist-singer-songwriter, having released six albums, among them lost&found eCHO; Cyprus Songs; extinction & Night Traffic. Michael formed the improvisation trio Status Quoi in 2006, with whom he continues to collaborate periodically. Michael has a visual art practice when not composing new instrumental guitar works.
