Once a year, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre invites its diverse membership to exhibit in this non-juried, salon-style exhibition, which always boasts a fabulously eclectic range of art and disciplines. Photography, painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed and new media; this is the gallery where you can see it all, and show your support by purchasing that perfect piece of original artwork.

Harcourt House Artist Run Centre invites the public to join us for an evening of Open Studio’s, AIR activities and Front Yard BBQ. On this special evening doors are open for guests to tour some of our 40 artist studios to find out, “what do those artists do in there?”.  Be sure to visit our current Artist In Residence in the Annex Building, Sydney Lancaster, as she prepares for his November exhibition and offers a free demo on how to create gel transfers! Visitors can also try out a free model session and make their own artwork in our Annex Art Education Studio. Supplies will be provided and an art facilitator will also be on site for inspiration. Everyone is welcome!

Originally from Washington D.C. suburbs, McLean Fahnestock works in video, sculptural installation and photography. She received her MFA from California State University in Long Beach where she also currently resides.

Fahnestock’s work revolves around the media protrayal of current events to the public and in August, Harcourt House will be home of Fahnestock’s video projection titled Grand Finale. This video is composed of a collection of 135 original videos displayed as a grid and includes sound made from radio transmissions of ground control.

Her work has been exhibited in New York, California, Tennessee, Indiana, and Canada.

Harcourt House Artist Run Centre is currently accepting submissions for our 2012/ 2013 Artist in Residence (AIR). Awarded to artists annually through a peer jury selection process, this program is committed to providing the selected artistwith a year-long, dedicated studio environment at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre to research, develop and exhibit new work. This program allows for the Artist in Residence to engage and interact with the local visual arts community, encouraging shared ideas, expression and discourse.

This one-year residency includes a studio space, access to our art education courses and facilities, teaching opportunities and a $150 monthly art supply stipend. The AIR will be given a solo exhibition in the centre’s Main Gallery at the end of the one-year term to conclude their residency. The AIR will receive CAR/FAC fees for the presentation of this final exhibition.

We invite artists who are Canadian residents to submit a proposal before May 31, 2012. All disciplines are encouraged to apply.  Applicants will be selected by the quality of work submitted, their demonstration of commitment to serious practice and how the residencywill meet their objectives at this crucial juncture in the development of their practice.

Turner’s installation of print works aim to reinterpret the 24 hour online shopping experience, the various items for sale and contemporary buying behaviour through her development of a new line of products.

Three of the installation works as well as the suite of traditional prints are part of a larger project to be displayed in the interiors of a number of Edmonton buses and in the LRT system, alongside the advertisements above the windows. Larger printouts will also be displayed on the outside of the buses, which will circulate Edmonton for a period of four weeks.

This exhibition is unique to Harcourt House because it is a “model curated show”.

Lewis describes that, “although many people do not experience pregnancy, life compels everyone to face times of change and uncertainty. Bidding us to grow and emerge into new people ready to face new challenges and joy.”

Harcourt House is largely known for its life drawing and sculpting session that run every week and we would like to give out a well deserved appreciation to Andrea and her dedication to Harcourt House.

Gary James Joynes is a sound artist, composer and visual artist from Edmonton, Canada. He is fascinated by the sources of electronic composition and the ever-evolving language of technology; objects and mechanisms stimulate his process.

His most recent installation work Ouroboros had its world premiere at the Koffler Centre of the Arts international exhibition Spin Off: Contemporary Art Circling the Mandala in September 2011. His sound and visual installation Frequency Painting: 12 Tones premiered at the Latitude 53 Art Gallery in January 2011. Clinker’s most recent Live Cinema work On the Other Side… was commissioned by the 2008 International Leonard Cohen Festival and has toured internationally. A film score for the National Film Board of Canada’s award winning feature documentary Dirt was composed by Clinker and premiered at the Vancouver DOXA Festival in May 2008. He was selected to open the Montreal MUTEK Festival 8th. Edition with his 2007 Live Cinema performance work Provody.

Patrick Higgins, Front Room, Harcourt House Gallery

Higgins blurs the line between representation and abstraction in his series of portraits of close friends and family. “The work has, weight and presence of what is observed in life” and that is what he focuses on presently.

Having an affinity for manmade materials coupled with an awareness of our poor physical relationship to the items we produce, Baker presents an installation featuring a series of twelve, small to large scale, highly reflective spherical sculptures fashioned from compact discs.
