Cassandra Paul’s Eastern Block August 14 – September 12, 2014

Eastern Block

Eastern Block explores themes of abandonment and personal history through the representation of a historic, now condemned building in Calgary, AB. This building, formerly named the Canadier-Deutsch Block and more recently known as Eastern Block was once home to thriving businesses and sixteen residential apartments. Over the past decade this block has deteriorated to a site of squalor and crime, with many of its tenants unable or unwilling to pay rent. This project explores the social issues associated with Eastern Block through painting, sculpture and an independently published book.

Paul’s Eastern Block exhibits in the Front Gallery from August 14th to September 12th, 2014. Her opening reception is on the 14th, 8 – 10 pm, with her artist talk occurring the same evening at 7:00 pm.
